1113 How Healthy Are Core Surgical Trainees in the East of England Deanery?

Abstract Aim To understand whether core surgical trainees (CSTs) adhere to nationally issued guidance on health behaviours (government, NHS) and poor are related the demands of being a CST. Method An anonymised electronic questionnaire addressing five behaviour domains (exercise, diet, smoking, alcohol, sleep) stress was distributed all CSTs within one UK deanery. Results 29 (29%) responded. 17% exercised ≥4 times per week, 31% ≥150 minutes week. 7% stated they smoked, those 50% that their smoking increased during 0% reported drinking ≥14 units alcohol 34% slept ≥7 hours each night, 93% sleep less since becoming 24% ate ≥5 portions fruit/vegetables day, 59% balanced drank cups fluid day. responders ≥150ml sugary drinks ≥3 caffeinated 52% experienced symptoms ≥3-4 90% felt more stressed than prior The CST most frequently attributed reason across domains. Conclusions in this region generally have with regards sleep, diet exercise, but not smoking. Health promoting should be encouraged amongst promote long-term quality life, career longevity improved mental health.
